2017 Harbor Docks King Mackerel Tournament

The Crew of Boggy Bayou does it again!

Another great tournament showing for Boggy Bayou Guide Service, as the Lethal Mission Fishing Team wrangles in a 1st place Blackfin Tuna and a 3rd place overall King Mackerel. This js the second year in a row that our crew has done extremely well at the Harbor Docks Summer Invitational being the only boat to catch a Blackfin tuna and limits of King Mackerels.

Saturday the seas were a little angry due to the aftermath of hurricane Irma but our dedicated group of anglers decided to tough it out anyway and go out with the large sport fishing boats.
With good baits in the live well and a tank full of gas we were prepared for a long ride to our first spot. After we arrived at our first spot we started soaking the prettiest looking big bait we had. After only moments of being deployed the down rigger line started singing! We knew this one was going to be a good fish but had no idea it would carry on to be the 3rd place overall King Mackerel. After a long fight and a perfect Gaff Shot by Captain Si Nelson our first King was on the boat.
Hours went by and we picked through plenty of nice Kings, but none large enough to be tournament contenders.
This is when Captain Jayson Self decided to make a run to the Southeast edge which starts around the 20 mile mark. Once again the tournament savvy, Jayson Self hit the nail on the head as our first bait got knocked down and started running. Captain Jayson maneuvered the boat flawlessly as Captain Si fought the fish. As soon as the fish started showing itself we noticed right away that it was a beautiful Blackfin Tuna and that a perfect gaff shot was imperative. As the fish dove and resurfaced we waited for the perfect shot and then WHAM deckhand Clark hit him with the gaff, fish on the deck!!

As the day was drawing to an end we made the long run in amongst choppy seas.

Day 2:

Day two of the tournament was full of excitement with a huge haul of nice kings that ended up frying up nicely for a delicious “Hook and Cook” at Harbor Docks, for the ultimate gulf to table experience.
The highlight of the day for our crew emerged towards the latter end of the day when we got a massive bull dolphin fish hit. One of our guest anglers fought him all the way to the boat only for the fish to pull the hook.
Later on at the dock we learned that, that fish would have placed us in first place for the Mahi division as well. Not to mention would have gone well on a plate that night!

Anyway, the weekend was a HUGE success and a large accomplishment for The Lethal Mission Fishing Team and the crew of Boggy Bayou Guide Service!
Stay tuned for big announcements and charter specials heading into the offseason.
Even though the weather will start cooling down, the fishing heats up!
