Destin Fishing Report 5/10/18

Updated May 10, 2018:

The weather for the upcoming week looks absolutely beautiful with sunny days all the way to the weekend, day time highs in the upper 80’s and lower 70’s for over night lows. The marine forecast is calling for light winds and calm seas all week.
Nearshore/beach- fishing has been very productive with the king mackerel bite picking up, best results are slow trolling live bait or plugs rigged with planners. You will also catch a few bonita and spanish mackerel while trolling that is always a fun addition to the fish box.
The cobia migration has just about come to an end with the majority of the fish being caught last week but you could always still run into one swimming down the beach or held up on one of the many inshore bottom spots.
Deep sea fishing- the bottom off the beaches have also be very good, amberjack season is open for a month. Use a slip lead rig with a 12’ leader and big lively baits such as; pinfish, hardtail, threadfin and rockfish.
Vermilion snapper, white snapper and triggerfish fishing is getting better along natural bottom using 2 hook rigs and cut squid.
Shark fishing- the shark fishing is definitely picking up as well, there’s a lot of black tip and spinner sharks right off the beaches chasing the bait fish and mackerel. There has also been a couple big mako sharks caught close to the beach especially with more cobia swimming through the last couple weeks.
