Origin of Destin’s white sand beaches

Origin of Destin’s white sand beaches

The unique sands on Destin, FL beaches are among the whitest, cleanest and softest sand anywhere in the world. Every gain of Destin’s white sand came from very ancient southern Appalachian mountain quartz, brought into the Gulf of Mexico by the Appalachian river long ago via wind and water erosion.
The naturally white quartz sand is bleached from the action of sun and water, also the beach is removed from sediment-loaded rivers which might have brought in discoloring sediments. One of the sands best qualities is that it’s so reflective that it doesn’t get hot, even under the most intense summer sun.
The beach is remote from silt-carrying, polluted rivers, and the water often appears emerald green because of sunlight reflecting off of harmless micro-algae suspended in the shallow waters. Not only does the sand sparkle, it actually squeaks when you walk on it from the sides of the grains of sand rubbing against one another.
Come see it for yourself and while your here…Go on a Destin FL, Fishing Charter!
